A Knife at Sea
A Knife at Sea is a classic bottle-episode style murder mystery set on a small ship. The captain has been murdered in the aftermath of an unexpected storm, and an innocent man will be sentenced if the truth is not sussed out.
This adventure is ballenced for a party of 4-6 level 4 characters, and sports a sandbox-style investivation portion. While the adventure can easily be run as a one-shot, it can also be dropped into an existing campaign – with lots of potential leads into follow-up adventures.
Synopsis:
Not a single person on the Pascuala likes their captain. He is gruff, negligent, and most of the time he is drunk. To his credit, he always ensures that he has a competent set of officers able to manage fine without his help. This allows him to keep to his habits, while ensuring that his ship makes it port to port. But when the captain is found brutally murdered, the tension of this working arrangement falls apart.
An unexpected storm struck at dusk, requiring all hands to labor into the early hours. When local authorities board and awaken the crew mid-morning, the crime is discovered. To make matters worse, it appears that the murderer is the very person that the PCs were hired to protect!
